Does your child struggle with attention or memory? Are you looking for an effective strategy to improve your child’s ability to process information? Follow the directions below as a fun way to improve attention skills, enhance working memory, and build visual processing skills. Each level increases the difficulty by adding another mental challenge. Don’t worry… your brain can adapt and grow! Check out my post from last week with another fun brain training activity.

  1. Download the Brain Training Colors Activity.
  2. Choose one of the color sets to complete. Begin with level 1 below. As your child practices more, you’ll find that each level is getting easier, which means that they are ready to try the next level. Have your child place the exercise in front of them with their hands in their lap on beside the paper.
  3. Use this image of color words as an example for each level.

Level 1

From the top row, moving left to right, read each word that is written without a mistake. For example, the lines on this page would say: “blue, orange, brown, green, red, brown, yellow, purple, blue, red, yellow, red.”

Level 2

Call out the color that each word is written in. For example, the lines on this page would say: “purple, red, yellow, brown, green, black, blue, orange, black, blue, purple, purple.”

Level 3

Next, if the word is written in __(color)__ or __(color)__ say the color, otherwise read each word. For example, if the word is written in purple or blue, the lines on this page would say: “purple, orange, brown, green, red, brown, blue, purple, blue, blue, purple, purple.”

Level 4

If the word is written in __(color)__ or __(color)__ read the word, otherwise, say the color.  For example, if the word is written in green or purple, the lines on this page would say: “blue, red, yellow, brown, red, black, blue, orange, black, blue, yellow, red.”
