Cookie Sheet Literacy
by: Sarah Sitzmann, M.A., CCC-SLP
Are you unsure what learning activities to do with your preschooler this summer? Do you feel overwhelmed by the amount of academic skills you need to practice?
My “go-to” pre-literacy & number skills activity for preschoolers can be found in the kitchen!
Step 1: Find a cookie sheet.
Step 2: Print or write your child’s name and the alphabet on separate pieces of paper and then laminate them.
Step 3: Purchase magnet letters, playdough & dry erase markers.
Step 4: Match/ sculpt/ trace & get creative!!
Magnet Letters/Numbers
Give your child the magnet letters to his or her name and then have him or her match the letters and say each sound. You could also give your child a large pile of magnet letters and have them sort through them to find the letters that go in their name. You can do this same activity using the alphabet! Thanks to the Intentional Momma for this alphabet printable.
Play Dough
Another fun activity is to use play dough instead of magnet letters. Have your child form the shape of each letter using the play dough. Make sure your child says the name of the letter as well as the sound the letter makes!
Dry Erase Marker
A third great activity is to use a dry erase marker instead of magnet letters or play dough. Have your child try to trace the letters using the dry erase marker.
You could do ALL of these activities with numbers too.
Enjoy!
