Does your child have difficulties with homework? Is it a struggle to get through each week’s assignments at home?

While all parents want to help their child be successful throughout the school year, homework can often become a battle. Here are some strategies to help keep the peace during homework time!

  • When discussing homework ask your child, “Do you have any questions about your assignments?” Then, offer your help if they’re in need. Starting by asking, “Do you have any homework?” allows students to respond by saying they have it all done, even if that isn’t the case.
  • Allow your child to keep ownership of their work. Guide your child when they need assistance, but don’t take control. Help your child develop communication skills by having them discuss any problems they have completing their work with their teacher.
  • Give your child positive feedback. Saying things like, “You worked so hard,” or, “I’m glad you attempted that problem on your own first. That shows you are taking responsibility,” shows your support and boosts their confidence.
  • Our study skills sessions help students develop the ability to work through assignments and homework on their own. We teach students how to navigate a textbook and what they need to do to study for exams.
