With the Fourth of July just a few days away, I thought I’d share some fun and festive crafts for kids of all ages!

Patriotic Suncatcher

Materials:

  • Contact paper
  • 12″ x 12″ Red or blue cardstock
  • Red and blue tissue paper
  • White star cutouts (you can buy these at any craft store, or you can cut them out of cardstock yourself)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. To make the frame, use the ruler to draw a 1-inch border around the edge of the red or blue cardstock. Cut it out with scissors so that you have a square frame.
  2. Peel off the backing and place one piece of contact paper with the sticky side facing up on the table. Then, place the frame on top so that it is sticking to the edges of the contact paper.
  3. Place the white star cutout in the center of the contact paper. Or if you’d like several stars, place them any way you’d like on the contact paper.
  4. Have the child use scissors to cut the red and blue tissue paper into small pieces. Then, place the tissue paper pieces on the contact paper.
  5. When the design is complete, place one more piece of contact paper with the sticky side facing down on top of the project to seal it all in.
  6. Hang in a sunny window and enjoy!

Sparkle Bottles

Materials:

  • Water bottle or glass jar filled with water almost all the way to the top
  • Silver glitter
  • Fourth of July plastic necklaces cut into small pieces
  • Red confetti stars
  • Red/White/Blue pipe cleaners
  • Red/White/Blue plastic straws
  • Any other small, festive trinkets that will fit through the mouth of the bottle

Instructions:

  1. Remove the lid of the water bottle or take the lid off the jar.
  2. Add in whatever red, white, and blue necklace pieces, confetti, pipe cleaners, straws, etc. that you’d like into the bottle.
  3. Pour in ~1 Tbsp of silver glitter
  4. Screw on the lid and use red Duct tape to tape the lid shut.
  5. Shake and enjoy!
