We are excited to announce our Preschool Listening and Spoken Language Classroom.

Enrichment Therapy is committed to delivering a safe, engaging, on-site learning experience for our preschool students.

What will the AV classroom look like?

We believe that children learn best through play and interacting with their peers. The Preschool Listening and Spoken Language Classroom will provide learning opportunities embedded into a play-based, thematic curriculum. Activities are highly focused and are designed to accelerate learning of spoken language and to foster growth in communication, social cognition, independence, and problem-solving.

Ideally, the classroom will consist of students with hearing loss and students with normal hearing. If you are aware of a family that is interested in a language-rich classroom with lots of individual attention for their child with typical hearing and language, please share this information with them!

How will my child’s abilities be assessed?

A work sampling system will be used to document and assess children’s skills, knowledge, behavior, and accomplishments across a wide variety of curriculum areas on multiple occasions in order to enhance teaching and learning.

What programs and curriculum will be used?

A listening and spoken language approach will be used to teach spoken language through listening.  Children with hearing loss can learn spoken language when they are identified early, have appropriate hearing devices, and are taught to listen through Listening and Spoken Language techniques. The Listening and Spoken Language Approach is developmental in nature and follows typical child milestones.

Research-proven strategies will be utilized in the classroom, including the Talkies program (the pre-school version of Visualizing and Verbalizing), Handwriting Without Tears, and PROMPT (for articulation), and the Michael Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum.

What are some advantages of enrolling in the Preschool Listening and Spoken Language Classroom?

The Preschool Listening and Spoken Language Classroom will be limited to six children. The small class size will give your child individualized attention. The class will be taught by Lisa Anderson, a Speech-Language Pathologist with 20 years of experience with a background in auditory-verbal therapy, who is working to become a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS).
