Des Moines & North Liberty
Watch your child thrive, learn & grow in reading and/or math skills with supplemental learning small groups tailored to each child’s skill level.
Online & In-Person Academic Support Groups
It can be hard to watch your student struggle through homework or the school environment week after week. It’s also frustrating when your child is not challenged enough in the classroom. Our academic enrichment programs for students of all ages help your child learn and grow in their reading and/or math skills throughout the school year. Sign up for supplemental learning small groups tailored to each child’s skill level that incorporate fun activities with effective, hands-on learning.
We offer in-person and online groups throughout the entire year to serve families anywhere with daytime and after-school programs. Help your child feel confident and enjoy learning!
Our individualized, skill-based programs are designed to meet the unique academic and developmental goals of your child in a fun and interactive environment.
An initial evaluation is completed during a one-on-one session to determine his/her baseline skill level. From that point, we are able to create an individualized plan to help your child succeed, and a group placement is recommended. We believe this initial assessment process is essential in determining an effective group placement. Your child will be in a group with other children who are at the same ability level.

Skills Addressed in a Fun and Interactive, Yet Structured Model:
- Phonemic Awareness
We know watching your child struggle with reading is hard, and every student deserves to thrive academically. Instead of falling further behind this summer, let’s make progress! Together, we can watch your child find confidence and joy in reading.
How do we do this? We keep groups small and create our groups based on each child’s unique reading needs. We spend time getting to know each child and his/her reading abilities before the program begins so we can spend our instructional time building skills and helping every group member progress together. With a small group size, we are able to take an individualized approach to maximize success.
Our program stands out above other tutoring resources because we teach very specific strategies for each child’s needs. We use an explicit, systematic, multi-sensory approach to help children achieve success in reading, comprehension, and writing. Early readers will spend a considerable amount of time learning vowel phonemes (sounds) and vowel teams and will pair these sounds with consonants to form words. When a child is able to sound out nonsense words well, he/she has mastered that phonetic rule and can better generalize it to new words on his/her own. Students who are able to read nonsense words, understand phonetic rules, and generalize those rules into new words on his/her own will be placed in a more advanced group. These groups will focus on decoding increasingly complex single-syllable words, learning syllable division strategies with multisyllabic words, and improving reading fluency.
We assess each child to make sure that they can read high-frequency words that do not follow common phonetic rules. Once a child is able to recall these words, their confidence in reading improves greatly. Not only do we want them to know the words, we want them to read the words automatically. Automatic recall is vital for fluent reading.
Once the accuracy of reading words is established, then we concentrate on improving the rate and fluency of reading. Children will improve comprehension skills through visualization and concept imagery. We teach students to create a mental image as they listen to or read information. As students’ word recognition skills become increasingly automatic and their language comprehension skills become increasingly strategic, they become more skilled readers.
Research-proven programs/methods that we utilize are: Visualizing and Verbalizing (reading comprehension), Seeing Stars (reading/decoding), Barton (reading/decoding), Heggerty (phonological awareness), Orton Gillingham approach, and many more.

Skills Addressed in a Fun and Interactive, Yet Structured Model:
- Memory skills related to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Accuracy with solving word problems
- Understanding of math concepts
- Computation accuracy
We know watching your child struggle with math is hard. It’s also frustrating when your child isn’t challenged enough in the classroom. Every student deserves to thrive academically, so let’s make progress! Together, we can watch your child find confidence and joy in math.
How do we do this? We keep groups small and create our group placements based on each child’s unique math needs. We spend time getting to know each child and his/her math abilities before the program begins so we can spend our instructional time building skills and helping every group member progress together. With a small group size, we are able to take an individualized approach to maximize success.
Our program teaches your child to think about math and numbers in a way that will help them solve any problem, even as they progress into different grade levels. By improving a child’s ability to visualize number representations, they become efficient and accurate in solving math problems.
Students will improve foundational math skills that will boost their performance across all math concepts. So much of what kids do in math is dependent upon their knowledge of numbers. If they do not have a strong foundation of number sense built, then they will be reliant upon memorization and following procedures without understanding. Our Mastering Math program will build your child’s number sense so that they can visualize numbers and math procedures.
We coach students on important strategies to help them to solve math facts easily. When students have not mastered the basic facts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, their math problem-solving abilities suffer. We want students to be able to recall answers quickly and easily.
We also help students to improve their higher-order thinking skills to solve math word problems with ease. We help them to draw a mental image of the information presented in each word problem, then problem-solve to find the missing information. Students will learn to attempt problems they aren’t sure how to solve instead of waiting for someone to help them.
We are confident that your child will start to enjoy math and have a boost in confidence with our fun, interactive strategies.
