Are you looking for new ways to work on language building during play at home? Are you wondering what you can do at home to help your child improve their skills?   Here are some great ways to incorporate language learning into seasonal play.

PLAY!   Play is a wonderful way to model language and social interaction while spending quality time with your child.  You know your child best, choose a favorite activity and play!

Here are some fun Spring and Easter themed activities to try:

Hide fun toys in some colorful Easter grass, pull out each toy and practice language skills.

Label each item.

Ask questions about the toy, “What color is it?”  “What does a horse say?”

Model longer phrases or sentences. “A pink pig!”

Give a clue and have your child find the toy you describe. “Get the animals that gives us milk and lives on a farm.”

Use a spring-themed coloring sheet, glue words with the speech sounds you are practicing on it.  Children love to see their work and will be more likely to come back and practice their sounds if it is part of something they have created!

Put vocabulary words, speech sounds, or motivating objects in Easter Eggs and have an egg hunt!

Follow your child’s lead, if there is something he or she is really interested in use it to motivate!
