Signs Your Child May Need Dyslexia Support
Many parents feel confused when their children show strong creative and problem-solving skills, but have difficulty with basic reading tasks.
It is common to wonder if what you are seeing is a temporary delay or a formal reading disorder like dyslexia. Dyslexia can look different at every age, but if you notice these signs, early intervention and tailored dyslexia support are key to bridging the gap before frustration sets in:

Early Childhood
Mixing up the names of familiar places or people, pronouncing words with multiple syllables, difficulty with rhyming, or difficulty making the connection between sounds and letters.

Elementary Age
Difficulty sounding out new words, difficulty learning numbers and sight words, or challenges recalling common "vowel teams" (like ee, ow, ai, ea).

Older Students
Slow and labored reading, difficulty copying from a board, not recognizing prefixes and suffixes as whole sound units, or work that appears messy and unorganized.

What Dyslexia Support Looks Like at Enrichment Therapy & Learning Center

1. Start The Conversation
The first step is to reach out if you have a concern. Our intake process is designed to help families feel comfortable while also helping us understand the child's needs.
We start with a conversation to gather background information, discuss questions, and help guide the family toward the best next step, whether that's a screening, consultation, or formal evaluation

2. Schedule a Consultation
Once scheduled, families complete an online intake to help our team tailor the evaluation to their specific concerns. For specialized assessments like dyslexia, we walk parents through the expected timeline and the specific areas being tested so there are no surprises.
After the evaluation, a dedicated consultation session is held to review the results and recommendations in detail and give you an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the next steps for your child.

3. Receive an individualized plan
Your child receives a custom treatment plan with specific, measurable goals for mastering vowel sounds, reading rate, and overall comprehension, based on their unique learning style.
Depending on the provider, our services may be fully covered by your insurance. If an evaluation is not covered by insurance or you have an out-of-network policy, we are very transparent about cost.

4. Watch Your Child Thrive
Through personalized one-on-one sessions, we help your child bridge academic gaps and rediscover their confidence. Because dyslexia presents differently in every child, our support is highly individualized, and the duration of treatment is determined by your child's age, their specific challenges, and their progress.
While research shows that intensive, ongoing intervention has the strongest results, most children meet their primary goals within an average of two years.

What Other Parents Are Saying
FAQs
What is dyslexia, and how can therapy help?
Dyslexia is a language-based learning difference that affects reading, spelling, decoding, and written language skills. Therapy can help children strengthen phonological awareness, improve decoding abilities, build reading fluency, and develop confidence through evidence-based, individualized instruction. Early intervention often leads to better academic and long-term outcomes.
What are the early signs that a child may have dyslexia?
Early signs of dyslexia may include difficulty recognizing rhymes, learning letter-sound relationships, pronouncing multi-syllable words, remembering sight words, spelling, or reading fluently. Children may also avoid reading or become frustrated with literacy tasks. Identifying these signs early allows families to seek an evaluation and begin appropriate support as soon as possible.
Can a speech-language pathologist help with dyslexia?
Yes. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) can play an important role in supporting children with dyslexia because reading and spelling are closely connected to language development. An SLP can target phonological awareness, language processing, vocabulary, comprehension, and other foundational skills that support successful reading and written communication.
What types of dyslexia intervention are most effective?
The most effective dyslexia interventions are individualized and based on structured, evidence-based literacy practices. Multisensory instruction that incorporates visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning helps children strengthen phonics, decoding, spelling, and reading comprehension while building confidence as their skills improve.
How do I know if my child needs a dyslexia evaluation or therapy?
If your child consistently struggles with reading, spelling, decoding unfamiliar words, or connecting letters to sounds despite classroom instruction, it may be time to seek a professional evaluation. A comprehensive assessment can identify your child's specific challenges and help determine whether individualized dyslexia therapy would be beneficial for improving literacy and academic success.
