When starting services with a speech-language pathologist or a learning specialist, we know there can be a lot of information to remember! The most important is that when students come to Enrichment Therapy & Learning Center, they’ll have fun and learn a lot while building confidence and achieving success in their skills! Another part of starting speech-language therapy or tutoring is the different reports that you will receive.

Speech-language pathologists and learning specialists write yearly evaluation reports and quarterly progress reports for each student. These reports contain great information about your child’s progress, but without guidance from your provider, they have the potential to be challenging to navigate. Below are some key differences in these documents’ purpose and content that can help provide parents insight into their child’s progress and goals!

Evaluation Reports

After an initial evaluation or a yearly re-evaluation, your provider will review your child’s evaluation report. These documents review your child’s performance compared to data on other students their age. The report might also list a diagnosis such as receptive-expressive language disorder, phonological disorder, or dyslexia. Your provider will also review goals for helping your child thrive in their skills and recommendations for session reoccurrence. Evaluation reports are received and reviewed at least one time per year.

Progress Reports

On a quarterly basis, your provider will review the goals that were set for your child and the progress that has been made in reaching those goals. Reviewing these together allows providers and parents to see the child’s progress on specific skills the child would benefit from working on. At Enrichment Therapy & Learning Center, we know every child learns in their own unique way. Progress reports allow us to review how the child is doing in comparison to when they started sessions.

Enrichment Therapy & Learning Center Makes Support Easy for Parents

Evaluation reports and progress reports are a couple of key pieces of information you will receive when starting services with one of our providers. A key difference between the two is that evaluation reports look at a standard score comparing your child’s performance to others of the same age. Evaluation reports can be reviewed yearly to see a child’s progress. Progress reports are reviewed on a quarterly basis and compare your child’s skills to the progress your child has made.

Enrichment Therapy & Learning Center believes every child deserves to thrive with their communication and academic skills. We know understanding where your child’s skill levels are and having support in helping them get to where they need to be can be overwhelming. That’s why we work hard to support families all across the Des Moines metro, North Liberty, Iowa City, and Cedar Rapids areas.

Together, we work to help children boost their skills so they can feel confident and successful. Ready to get started? Contact us today and schedule a free screening at our North Liberty or Des Moines location!
